Selecting Materials for Your Bathroom
/Creating a unique and colorful space
It’s been a while since we’ve updated you on a project that our team has been working on so we wanted to share a bathroom we helped put together from a new build. This bathroom is full of cheer with a touch of color.
Painted Cabinets
When designing a fun bathroom, colorful cabinets are always a great place to start. These cabinets hold up well to wear but can also be easily repainted if trends or your taste changes. If you are designing a space for a child, you can let them weigh in on the color palette. This allows your child to truly claim the bathroom as their own.
If you are having trouble selecting a color, find your inspiration piece. Maybe it’s a piece of artwork, a shower curtain, a rug, wallpaper, or even magazine/online inspiration. Regardless of your inspiration this can give you a jumping off point to design your space.
Shower/Tub
The options are endless for your shower, tub, or combo piece. You can go with a prefab shower/tub combo like in this bathroom. This is a smart option when you are wanting an easy installation and to ensure there won’t be any leaks. Many people who want a tub/shower combo go with a tub and tiled walls to create the shower space. Using tile allows you to integrate another design feature. Still others are loving the shower only option. With that you can leverage a prefab shower flower to ensure leak prevention or you can go with tile. Tile can increase your budget drastically depending on the type of tile and pattern you select.
Wall Covering
This bathroom did a combination of wainscotting and wallpaper. Wainscoting paneling became popular in the 18th century. There have been alterations over the years, but in general this is a very traditional finish. It’s easy to wipe down which is great for a bathroom.
The wallpaper is a floral toile. I don’t know if you’ve been paying attention to women and children’s fashion but toile is definitely “in” right now. If you are debating on whether to include wallpaper or not your design, just do it. Wallpaper makes each room so unique. It’s not permanent… you can take it down and change it. You can paint the wall later.
Fixtures and Hardware
There are two schools of thought on fixtures and hardware. The first option is to make everything match. If you are selecting chrome: make everything chrome. The second option is to mix and match metals. This can work when done correctly. In this bathroom, we used all complementary fixtures and hardware.
As you can see, when designing a room, let alone an entire house, there are lots of selections. If you are starting a project and seeing that you need some help, our team at Hardwood Specialties is here to help. Reach out to us to discuss your space.
